• After operating for fifty-three years, the guest ranch closed in 1970. Lillian was eighty-two. However, she kept ranching for several more years.

• Lillian and her husband, Ed Riggs, promoted the idea of making much of the ranch land into a national park. Through their efforts the Chiricahua National Monument was established.
